Park (or bark) up by the beach

With the ocean at their paw-tips and soft sandy beaches between their toes, your fur-baby will get so much out of this coastal holiday that they may need an afternoon nap!

With swimming all year round, kids will have a sliding good time whirling down the water slides and making a splash at Discovery Park Coolwaters Yeppoon.

Dog-friendly farm retreat

Invite your dog to sit back, put their paws up and take in the stunning views at Hedlow Retreat. They can meet the local cows, horses and get back to nature.

For the other family members there are farm tours, animal feeding, fishing, canoeing, bush walking, star gazing and a campfire (don’t forget to bring marshmallows!)

Dog-friendly rainforest spaces

Nestled in the majestic rainforest is Forest Fields Campstay. Whether you have a caravan, camping trailer or tent, this is the perfect spot for a family holiday.

The farm known as “Middle Earth”, originally a citrus orchard, has many varieties of fruit trees including sapotes, sapodillas, grumachumas, jaboticabas, jackfruit, avocadoes and bananas. Beth turns natures gifts into tasty delights including dehydrated fruit, rosella teas, cordials, jams and chutneys.

The campground has quirky but functional amenities, drinking water and fires are permitted.

Keep an eye out for the local Byfield Fern, Byfield Grevillea and Wompoo Dove.

Meet the Clydesdales

A sort drive from Rockhampton on the Emu Park road is where you can unhitch the caravan or pitch a tent overlooking these gorgeous horses.

You’ll be greeted by the spots Benson and Major and your host Lynda welcomes you to her country farm. Feed and pat the animals that call Shiralee home – with cows, horses, pigs, sheep, chooks, ponies and guinea pigs.

Shiralee Clydesdales and Farm Stay is for the self-sufficient camper or you can rent a cottage.

Get dog-friendly off the beaten track

With towering cliffs, deep gorges and rich in Aboriginal culture, head out west and discover the Sandstone Wilderness.

Spend at least four days – longer if you have time – as you’ll need it to explore and reconnect with nature and the outdoors. The National Park offers many scenic walks and 4WD trails.

For self-sufficient campers with dogs, Sandstone Park Carnarvon Gorge is located on the outskirts on Carnarvon Gorge, Carnarvon National Park.
