Test VR thingy: Carnarvon Gorge and Sandstone Wilderness

Carnarvon Gorge-ous

With abundant wildlife, rugged sandstone cliffs and breathtaking scenery, Carnarvon Gorge deserves to be added on your holiday must-do list.

From camping to cabins, there really is something for everyone. Many of the walks at Carnarvon Gorge National Park are kid friendly including a fun stepping stone hop through a shallow creek crossing!

Friendly (and cute) locals

Kangaroos, koalas and wallabies are your welcoming committee in the Sandstone Wilderness.

See the platypus, tiny in size but huge in cuteness. As darkness falls, look to the trees for possums, bats and an array of nocturnal creatures. Combine wildlife spotting with a million stars, add in some fireside marshmallows, and you have the perfect mix for quality time!

Hit the trails

Feel connected to the earth as your lungs fill with clean air, and the only noise you hear is your feet on the path.

Take a guided tour with local Australian Nature Guides or Takarakka Bush Resort, otherwise head off on your own to explore the trails. Tackle a short walk or challenge yourself with the 86km ‘Great Walk’.  There’s a myriad of options to choose from.

Stay in the wilderness

Immerse yourself in nature.

Try glamping at Takarakka Bush Resort or bring your own tent.  You might prefer self-sufficient and pet-friendly caravanning at Sandstone Park. Either way, you can enjoy a chat around an open fire under a night sky lit only by millions of stars.

Aboriginal rock art

Admire Aboriginal rock art that will bring you back to where time began.

Tour the Art Gallery and Cathedral Cave where indigenous dreamtime stories play out amongst the surrounding natural beauty of flora and fauna. Marvel at paintings and rock art created with ancient stencil and engraving techniques.
