Getting here

Regardless of whether you’re travelling by land or air – getting to the Capricorn region is easy!

Rockhampton Airport (ROK) is a major Australian regional airport, with flights to Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.  QANTAS Link and Virgin Australia fly in to Rockhampton (ROK) daily from Brisbane (BNE). The flight is only about 1 hour 10 minutes duration. Rockhampton Airport is located 5km from the Rockhampton city centre.  Flights are also available to Emerald airport.  CQ Connections offers a bus service to the Capricorn Coast from the Rockhampton airport.

Road trips are not measured by miles, but by moments.  Located along the Tropical of Capricorn, the Capricorn region is intersected by a number of major Australian highways.

Pacific Coast Way:  The Pacific Coast Way links coastal havens, hinterland towns, and major cities all along the east coast from the Gold Coast to Cairns. As part of this path, Queensland’s major coastal touring route, the Bruce Highway, provides many access points within the Capricorn region.

Great Inland Way:  Taking in Carnarvon Gorge National Park and Emerald,  this touring route is a classic road trip with sweeping vistas and welcoming hospitality.

Capricorn Way:  This route links the Southern Great Barrier Reef to the Outback. Follow the self-driving touring trail “Dig The Tropic” to uncover the history of Australia – from the Jurassic era to the present day.

Australia’s Country Way:  Starting south of the border, Australia’s Country Way guides you to the delights and treasures that pepper the countryside of the Great Dividing Range. From Sydney to Rockhampton, winding roads reveal seasonal produce and welcoming hospitality. On the back roads of Central Queensland, city streetscapes give way to western sunsets truly bringing this route to life.

Leichhardt Way:  Set off on a modern day adventure as you ‘blaze a trail’ along the fully sealed Leichhardt Way. Follow in the tracks of the intrepid explorer, Ludwig Leichhardt, along this inland route named in his honour.

Enjoy the convenience of taking the bus to Rockhampton. Greyhound Australia bring people from major cities to Rockhampton.  They offer multiple departures to suit your travel plans and you can enjoy free WiFi and power outlets.

Queensland Rail offers multiple services per week to Rockhampton from Brisbane return on the popular high speed Tilt Train; as well as regular services on the Spirit of Queensland to the north and Spirit of the Outback to the west.  Click here for timetables, more information and special deals on rail fares.
